Where it comes from
TENCEL is a branded lyocell fiber made by the Austrian company Lenzing, produced from the wood pulp of sustainably grown trees, typically eucalyptus or beech. The wood pulp is dissolved using a solvent and spun into fiber in a closed-loop process that recovers and reuses more than 99% of the solvent and water involved. It is a rare case of a semi-synthetic fiber process with a genuinely low environmental footprint, verified by third-party certification rather than marketing copy alone.
What it feels like
Lyocell fibers have an unusually smooth, even surface at the microscopic level, smoother than cotton and most other cellulosic fibers. That smoothness is what reads as softness against skin, and it is why lyocell blends are comfortable enough for people who find other fabrics irritating. Why we blend it with merino
